Parks and Gardens of Melbourne

It’s Spring!  In our opinion, the best outdoor season of the year.

Why not enjoy a stroll or picnic in one of the parks and gardens of Melbourne. Take a break from the pace of the city and enjoy the nature that abounds.

Here is a list of some of the parks and gardens in and around the city of Melbourne for you to discover. Perfect for a romantic walk with your partner, or a day of outdoor family fun.

Birrarung Marr
Batman Avenue, Melbourne
Enjoy the open air-collection of artworks showing the diversity of Victoria’s indigenous culture. The kids can enjoy the playground while you enjoy the river views. Be sure to listen out for the ringing of the Federation Bells.

Carlton Gardens
1-111 Carlton Street, Carlton
These heritage listed gardens house an array of wildlife including brushtail possums. Within these beautiful nineteenth century gardens there’s dramatic tree-lined avenues, a majestic fountain, flowerbeds and miniature lakes.
The world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building is located here, and you’ll also find the Melbourne Museum and IMAX Cinemas on the northern border of the gardens.

Como House and Garden
Corner Williams Road and Lechlade Avenue, South Yarra
Lose yourself in the beauty of manicured gardens and rich history of the historic mansion that at 160 years old has seen the transformation of the city through the Gold Rush, a Depression and two World Wars.

Royal Botanic Gardens
Melbourne Gardens, Birchwood Avenue, Melbourne
Enjoy the stunning gardens at your own pace or join a tour such as the Aboriginal Heritage Walk and Garden Discovery Tours. There’s an abundance of flora and fauna to see.
If you have kids, be sure to stop in at the Children’s Garden where the youngest of botanists can discover the world of nature; crawling through plant tunnels, climbing rocks and hiding in the bamboo forest.

Fairy Park
2388 Ballan Road, Anakie
Young visitors will be captivated by Fairy Park, a place dedicated to story telling of ancient myths, legends and fairy tales.
Three major areas make up Fairy Park, they are; Fairytale Land, Camelot Playground and the Elephant Rock Picnic Grounds.

Fitzroy Gardens
230-298 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne
A green oasis in the heart of the city. Enjoy the shady avenues of grand trees as you take a walk through the grounds, visit the historic Captain Cook’s Cottage with it’s tiny doorways, see the carved Fairies Tree, the model Tudor Village, the conservatory and much more.
