Cook’s Cottage

Enjoy a visit to the historic landmark ‘Cook’s Cottage’, Australia’s oldest building. It was built back in 1755 by the parents of Captain James Cook, in Yorkshire England.

In 1934, Sir Russell Grimwade had the cottage shipped to Melbourne (each brick numbered and packed into barrels).

Today the cottage provides a step back in time, housed in a delightful English cottage garden, with volunteers dressed in 18th century costume.

Located in the gorgeous heritage-listed Fitzroy Gardens, a visit the Cook’s Cottage is well worth putting on your Melbourne ‘to do’ list.

Open daily from 9am to 5pm. Closed on Christmas Day.
