Festive season in the city

14 December 2017

If you’re thinking or will be spending Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Melbourne, here are a few ideas on where to wine & dine that is unique to Melbourne.

Christmas Day Lunch

Crown Casino’s Conservatory
It has been described as the best buffet in Melbourne so if you want options, then the Conservatory has it all including seafood, a carvery and a variety of cuisines from around the world. To top that of is their famed dessert bar with an endless chocolate fountain. Bookings are essential.

Melbourne Zoo Christmas lunch
For a family event that is unique and cute, why not take the kids to Melbourne Zoo for Christmas Day lunch. For three hours, enjoy a 4 course lunch with drinks, be entertained by a roaming jazz duo and a special appearance from Santa. Bookings are essential.

Le Petite Creperie
If you prefer something a little lighter for Christmas lunch, Le Petite Creperie on Hardware Lane offers authentic French savoury galettes and sweet crepes with good coffee. A casual venue to relax on Christmas Day and it won’t break your budget.

What’s open?

All department stores and shops are closed on Christmas Day although you may find the random store open as you walk through the city. Major attractions like the NGV will be closed but it’s the perfect excuse to get out and about in the city. Take a walk along the Yarra River, to the Royal Botanical Gardens, South Wharf or Docklands.

New Year’s Eve

Eureka 89
Join partygoers at Elevations New Year’s Eve at Eureka 89. Have the best view in town of Melbourne city on level 88 during the fireworks display while enjoying canapes, drinks and entertainment. Tickets are available on their website.

Arbory Afloat
From the height of Melbourne to the waters of the Yarra River, bring in the new year on the city’s largest pop-up  floating bar and restaurant. Be entertained by Dj’s while you eat freshly shucked oysters, drinking champagne and taste the roaming canapes.

BYO picnic hamper
Why not join the locals and take your position along the Yarra River or at one of the many parks around the city with vantage points of the 9pm and midnight fireworks. Grab a bottle of champagne from IGA supermarket next door to the hotel, nibbles and party hats too.
