24 hours in Melbourne for Father’s Day

Melbourne Heli Pad

31 August 2017

It’s that time of the year again to give your Dad the special treatment and spoil him with a day out in Melbourne. With only 24 hours on Father’s Day, here are our recommendations, which are all within walking distance or a tram ride from Treasury on Collins.

6:30-9:30am Breakfast
The day commences with a continental breakfast in our Treasured Guest Lounge on the Mezzanine floor. Start the day with pancakes, toast, cereal, fruit cups and unlimited tea & coffee, all complimentary if you book directly with us.

Alternatively, if you feel like venturing out and trying one of the many cafes in Melbourne, we recommend Hardware Societe on Hardware Lane. The Cafe’s specialty baked eggs with chorizo, potatoes and piguillo peppers served with sourdough is hearty fuel to ignite you for the big day ahead.

10:00am Tour of the MCG
All Dads deserve a break on Father’s Day including AFL Dads too. With no matches being played this Father’s Day weekend, it’s a great opportunity to go behind the scenes and take a guided tour of the MCG. See the famous MCC Long Room, a portrait of Sir Donald Bradman and take a walk on the arena. Dads will be chuffed with this unique experience.

12:00pm Explore Melbourne on foot
The best things in life are free and there are many ways to explore Melbourne without costing a cent. With the season of Spring upon us, why not take a leisurely walk back to the city via historic Fitzroy Gardens with the large elm trees shading your path while being surrounded by beautiful Australian native blooms. Other points of interest include: Cook’s Cottage, the model tudor village and the Spanish mission style conservatory. Continue to the Old Treasury Building where admission is free to discover the history of Melbourne and Victoria.

1:30pm Yum Cha in Chinatown
Hop on a free tram on Collins Street and make your way down to Swanston Street and follow the aroma of hot steaming dumplings to Chinatown. Yum Cha with its variety of seafood or scallop dumplings, rice flour rolls with juicy prawns and custard tarts for a sweet ending is a light lunch option for the day. We highly recommend Shark Finn House or Shark Finn Inn in Chinatown where the locals go to for their yum cha fix.

3:00pm Scenic Flight of Melbourne
For the adventurous Dad and for a bird’s eye view of Melbourne, why not treat your Dad to a helicopter flight. The 15 minute flight includes scenic views of Albert Park- home of the Australian Grand Prix, Etihad Stadium, Melbourne Star and Flemington Racecourse just to name a few highlights.

4:00pm Wine Down
Your Dad may need a break from the Day’s activities and there’s no better place than on our Mezzanine floor for Afternoon Wine Down. Relax in one of our comfy lounge seats and enjoy complimentary glasses of Tahbilk wine with cheese & crackers (all free if you’ve taken advantage of our Treasured Guest Program). Test out your precision skills with a game of snooker or catch up on the day’s news with complimentary newspapers or grab a book for some light reading before a night of entertainment.

6:30pm Book of Mormon musical
End the day with a musical production at the 9 Tony Award winning musical ‘Book of Mormons’ production now playing at Princess Theatre. The funny and entertaining production has been a worldwide hit and has been a huge success in Melbourne.

For a quick but satisfying pre-theatre drink and meal, Punch Lane offers theatre goers exceptional local and international wines to accompany seasonal dishes. How does chestnut and rabbit pie or twice baked gruyere soufflé sound topped with a cheeseboard of Yarra Valley goats cheese or an aged gouda from the Netherlands?

After a day of touring, wining and dining, our beds are super comfortable for the night’s slumber but who can sleep when there is free Netflix in all our rooms. You literally may be up for 24 hours!

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there.
