What makes our Mezzanine so special?

25 August 2017

What is a mezzanine?
A mezzanine (or in French, an entresol) is, strictly speaking, an intermediate floor in a building which is partly open to the double-height ceilinged floor below, or which does not extend over the whole floorspace of the building’ Wikipedia

Upon entering Treasury on Collins, the grandeur and history of the building extends beyond the impressive exterior façade. Lighting the guest foyer are the beautiful hanging chandeliers of yesteryear that illuminate hues of star dust and gold into what was once the banking chamber and lighting Level “M”, our Mezzanine floor.

The Mezzanine floor didn’t exist back in 1876 when the building was first constructed. It wasn’t until 1929 that the interior was completely reconstructed. A mezzanine level was added within the ground floor banking chamber with ornate metal balustrades and a light well was built through the centre of the building culminating in a glazed sky light over the banking chamber.

Fast forward to 2017 and the Mezzanine Floor has been transformed into an area of entertainment, relaxation and comfort for our leisure guests. For business travellers, it’s an atmospheric change to their hotel ‘office’ room complete with free wifi access.  Furnished with comfortable modern chairs and designer lounges, the space allows guests to sit back and relax or benefit from the services available including where our daily breakfast is served. For guests to enjoy the quiet morning ambience of the Mezzanine overlooking the banking chambers is a real perk. As breakfast winds down at 10:00am, the area is transformed into our Treasured Guest Lounge where in-house guests are provided with complimentary tea, coffee, soft drinks, fruit and snacks from 10am-10pm to keep them going for the day.

As the day comes to an end, Afternoon Wine Down commences from 4pm to 6pm where guests can enjoy a glass or two of award winning Tahbilk wine with nibbles. The atmosphere is lifted as the work crowd gathers at The Bank Restaurant below during the working week and hasn’t people watching always been a fun thing to do? There’s enough space for privacy, a nook with a snooker table and a mini library of books if guests wish to take one back to their room to read.

The Mezzanine floor can be accessed by all in-house guests and complimentary breakfast and Afternoon Wine Down is available to guests who have taken advantage of our Treasured Guest Program.

It’s an inviting area for guests who want to start or end their day here, it’s the heart of Treasury on Collins and where guests often positively comment on its appearance and facilities.  It’s also where changes will occur soon to enhance our guest’s experience.
